October Halloween Links

Everyone knows that October is a great fun time for Cubs. Here are some links and tips to make your October planing
a fun time for all.

Tip: Halloween is a great time but, it may not be so great for pets. Here are some things to consider:

1. Place your pets in a quiet room that is away from the front door.
2. Play some music that may mast the constant door bell ringing.
3. If you are planing a child's party, you may want to have a neighbor take care of your pets. The party noise and activity may upset the pet or may make the pet become active with the children, causing problems.
4. Never feed pets Halloween candy. Chocolate could be lethal to dogs.

Pumpkin carving for the artistically challenged

Find a Halloween graphic that you like A ghost, witch, spooky character or such and attach it to your pumpkin. Coloring books are a great source for graphics. Take a nail or heavy needle and poke it into the pumpkin as you trace the graphic. Use a small knife with a serrated edge to cut out your image. It doesn't have to be all pumpkin or holes. If you scrape the pumpkin skin thin, the light will show a lighted orange image. To be safe, light your pumpkin with a flash light or violative candle.

You think this a bit more than you can handle? Use the spur used in sewing and use it to trace the pattern in your pumpkin. Then take some paint and paint the image on to your pumpkin. No one will know if you painted within the lines. 8)

Hint: Masks often reduce the child's field of vision, especially at night time. Try applying make up instead.

Some Safety Tips for Trick or Treaters

1. Use reflective tape on their costumes. Many costume are dark in color and are hard to see at night. A piece of reflective tape on both legs and around the wrists may be important.
2. Make sure the materials in your purchased costumes are fire retardent
3. Trick or Treaters should be carrying flash lights even if they go before it gets dark. They may come home in the dark.
4. An old pillow case works well for the Trick or Treat bag. It is stronger than plastic or paper
5. Costumes shouldn't restrict a child's movement. A robot costume with cardboard tubes on legs and arms may cause your cub aged child to trip or fall
6. Children shouldn't eat any candy or goodies until they get home
7. Stay with a group of kids you know not alone or unsupervised
