If Ben Franklin had his way, the turkey, not the eagle, would be our national bird!

Pilgrim Speak. Common things we say every day may have sound different in the Pilgrims time.

"Goodbye" would be "Fare thee well"
"Hello" would be "How now" or "How do you fare?"
A mouser would be a cat.
Pants would be breeches.

Plymouth Rock
The Pilgrims stepped on to Plymouth Rock when they first rowed ashore from the Mayflower in 1620. No record was made of this rock at the time. There were stories of the rock which were passed down from father to son or daughter. About 1741 a wharf was to be built in the area of the rock. In 1774 a group of locals got together to move the rock. The rock was very large and split in half creating a upper and lower half. The bottom part was left behind and the top part was placed at the liberty pole square in front of the meeting-house. In November 1775, one of Wasington's ships the schooner Harrison had captured two British ships filled with supplies heading for Nova Scotia. The Captain of the Harrison had the British prisoners land on the same spot that the bottom half of the rock lay. In 1835 the top of the rock was moved to Pilgrim Hall and placed n a fancy iron fence to protect the rock from people chipping pieces off as keep sakes In 1880 both halfs of the rock were reunited and the date "1620" was engraved into the rock. By 1920 the wharf around the rock was in disrepair, The rock was moved and the old wharf was removed and a landscaped waterfront created for the placement of the rock.
